CIVIC collaborated with OverUnder to develop a Facilities Planning Report for the Boston Public Schools Adult Education (Adult-Ed) and Re-Engagement Center (REC). Together with the Boston Public Schools, we identified programmatic and operational goals that informed facility priorities and long-term planning strategies.
The REC reaches out to high school dropouts and helps them complete school via in-house teaching or reconnection with a suitable high school. Adult-Ed supports adults to gain high school diplomas, learn English, and develop their careers. And just as their roles are distinct, care was taken to recognize the REC and Adult-Ed as disparate groups with unique needs.
Through this process, the team engaged the REC and Adult-Ed communities to gain a better understanding of the operational, programmatic, and spatial needs of the programs. The team then examined the best future location for them, with a strong preference for staying on campus if the available space meets their needs.
