The City of Providence Department of Art, Culture and Tourism supports and promotes the cultural vitality of Providence, a dynamic city known for its creative economy, historic neighborhoods, and active arts scene. CIVIC partnered with Jon Stover and Associates to conduct a study examining the role of nighttime activity in supporting the city’s economy, culture, and overall quality of life. Working in collaboration with the Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, CIVIC led the engagement with a diverse group of local stakeholders to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping Providence’s nighttime economy. Research examined economic contributions, stakeholder needs, and operational conditions affecting evening and late-night businesses. Through stakeholder engagement and data analysis, key strategies were identified to strengthen coordination, safety, and sustainability across the sector. The work informed actionable recommendations to support a more vibrant, inclusive, and resilient nighttime environment for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
