CIVIC is leading community engagement for the ProvPort Master Plan, a long-term evaluation of the port's activities over the next 30 years. This project focuses on the environmental justice (EJ) community surrounding ProvPort, specifically residents in Wards 10 and 11.
Our role has been to facilitate meaningful community engagement, ensuring the voices of local residents are heard throughout the master planning process. This has included leading a series of public meetings with interactive activities and creating a community newsletter to disseminate information about the master plan.
The master planning process requires a minimum of four community meetings with stakeholders, businesses, and residents. A public hearing before the Providence City Council will follow, where the final draft master plan will be presented for adoption. The plan will also include a 5-year capital improvement plan for ProvPort.
This project aims to create a comprehensive and equitable vision for ProvPort's future, balancing the needs of the port with the concerns of the surrounding community. By actively engaging with residents and stakeholders, we are working to ensure that the master plan reflects the community's priorities and contributes to a more sustainable and just future for all.
