Providence Riverwalk stretches along the Providence River waterfront, connecting key downtown destinations while offering opportunities for recreation, gathering, and public life. Building upon the City of Providence’s Unified Vision for Greater Kennedy Plaza, CIVIC worked with a design team led by Arup to redesign the riverwalk, enhancing connectivity, activation, public safety, accessibility, and long-term climate resilience. In collaboration with Arup and project partners, CIVIC led a comprehensive community engagement process to inform the redesign. This included facilitating public meetings both in-person and online, convening stakeholder focus groups, and conducting on-site interviews and observations. Engagement activities captured a wide range of perspectives on access, safety, and programming, helping to shape a more inclusive and responsive design approach. Insights from this work supported the creation of a more vibrant, welcoming, and resilient waterfront for residents and visitors alike.
